Mission
Church in Conversation exists to help people experience Jesus in new ways through engagement with the living traditions and practices of His Church throughout history and today.
For two thousand years, Christians have sought to understand Jesus, interpret His Word, worship faithfully, cultivate life in Christ, and embody faith within their world. These efforts have taken shape in countless traditions, movements, communities, and expressions of the Church. Each bears witness to something. No single movement exhausts the richness of Christ — together they form a vast testimony to the ongoing work of Jesus among His people.
Church in Conversation exists to help people enter that testimony — through meaningful encounter with faithful witnesses from across the life of the Church. The goal is deeper encounter with the One these witnesses ultimately point to.
Where we are today
That's the full scope of what this project is for. What's actually built and live right now is its first chapter — Church in Conversation: The First Centuries — five communities from the Church's own first four hundred years. Later centuries are planned, each its own careful, review-gated build, not a shortcut on top of the first.

We Encounter More of Christ Through the Witnesses of His Church
The richness of Christ is revealed through the many historical and contemporary movements of His Church. No single movement exhausts that richness — together they form a vast testimony to His ongoing work among His people.

Understanding Grows Most Deeply Through Encounter
Rather than presenting history, theology, and tradition as information alone, we create opportunities for meaningful encounter. Encounter transforms information into understanding, and understanding into possibility.

Every Witness Bears Testimony Faithfully
A witness speaks for a particular movement within Christ's Church — allowed to speak honestly in its own voice, pointing beyond itself to the One it ultimately serves, without modernizing, harmonizing, defending, or critiquing it into someone else's argument.

Authentic Encounter Requires Trustworthy Transparency
Participants get access to sources, evidence, tensions, disagreements, uncertainties, and limitations — the truth, plainly, held to a higher standard than simplification.

Technology Should Serve Encounter, Never Replace It
Technology exists to create access, preserve fidelity, and support transparency — in service of human judgment, community, and spiritual formation. It expands what's possible; the encounter itself is the point.
How It Works
The build process is the product
Each community you can sit down with passes through a review-gated construction pipeline before anyone meets it: its sources are cataloged and weighed for reliability, its central convictions are tested against the evidence, its vocabulary is built term by term with citations, and its voice is adversarially tested for places it might drift, invent, or overstate. No community is called validated until an independent scholar in that specific field has reviewed it.
Every claim carries how confidently it's known — documented, widely accepted, or honestly uncertain — down to the footnote, before you ask. Where the record runs out, the system says so plainly rather than filling the silence.
Safety & Disclosure
What governs this experience
This is an AI system, governed by a written charter that forbids designing for persuasion, conversion-tracking, or engagement-maximization — the same discipline regulators have begun requiring of AI-companion apps, built into this project from before those rules existed. It's a doorway, not a home: built to point participants back toward living community and real human relationship.
If a conversation touches real distress, a separate, clearly-labeled voice steps in to direct the participant toward real human support.
About Us
Who's behind this
Church in Conversation is a small, in-formation ministry. It began as one person's conviction that people could encounter more of Christ by meeting the Church's own historical witnesses honestly, on their own terms — and has grown into a disciplined, scholarship-first construction process, tested with real participants.
